Live exchange rates are fetched from the Open Exchange Rates API (openexchangerates.org), a widely used, independently operated financial data provider. Rates are requested when you use the converter and cached briefly in your browser session.
Rates displayed are mid-market reference rates — the midpoint between buy and sell prices used in interbank currency trading. These are not the rates you will receive when actually exchanging money. Every real-world exchange adds a spread (the provider's margin) and potentially fees. Airport exchange booths typically offer 8–15% worse than mid-market; good travel cards offer 0.3–1% worse. Rates are fetched live when you use the converter and cached in your browser session for up to one hour.
